City of Cape Town achieves Level 4 BBBEE rating

BBBEE

The City of Cape Town has achieved a Level 4 BBBEE rating in the latest BEE verification audit conducted by leading economic empowerment rating agency, Empowerdex.

The City of Cape Town recognises the value of quantifying our BBBEE status as part of our commitment to redress and to building opportunities for all residents of our city, the City's Deputy Mayor, Ian Neilson, announced.

"This latest BBBEE rating achieved by the City of Cape Town reflects an improvement from the Level 5 rating obtained last year. The City of Cape Town is committed to a broad based Black Economic Empowerment model, with the benefits being truly broad based. As such, we do not predetermine outcomes but commit to being open and transparent in our procurement dealings. This is paying off and we are very pleased that we have improved from a Level 5 to Level 4 despite increased targets in employment equity and preferential procurement that have been set.

"The project has incorporated all six of the elements on the adjusted generic scorecard as per the gazetted codes of good practice. Suppliers who procure from the City of Cape Town can recognise their full spend with the City and an additional 1,25% as a result of the City of Cape Town being recognised as a value adding supplier. Particularly noteworthy is the procurement category that measures the extent to which the City of Cape Town buys from other companies who have valid BBBEE certificates," says Neilson.

The certificate is available on the City’s website and can be downloaded from www.capetown.gov.za/en/mayor/Documents/CCT_Certificate_2013.pdf
