The editor, colleagues and associates of Black Business Quarterly, join the world in wishing Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela a healthy 95th birthday anniversary today.

The world’s greatest statesman has been recuperating from a prolonged lung infection at a Pretoria Hospital, where he has been receiving specialist treatment since June 8.

In recognition of his contribution to mankind, the United Nations declared July 18 Nelson Mandela International Day. The occasion is dedicated to goodwill, during which time people around the world devote 67 minutes doing charity work in their communities, symbolic of the number of years the liberation stalwart spent in public life.

In the spirit of Nelson Mandela International Day, staff from Cape Media (publishers of BBQ magazine) spent 67 minutes at Ncedolwethu Edu-Care Centre in Mfuleni, Cape Town, rendering a hand at the crèche which houses 35 kids.

As this iconic symbol of reconciliation lies in hospital, it is our wish that he recovers in time to inspire this great nation to greater heights, as we race towards commemoration of two decades of democracy in April 2014.

Get well Madiba, and may you live longer! Here’s to 67 cheers for the world’s greatest statesman. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven…….
