New beginnings are not the most pleasant at times. To some, it means a new path from a failed attempt, a change of path to suit a lifestyle perhaps to please the rest, and maybe a new path to another beautiful journey. To me, it is the latter.
A woman who inspires me, once said, “Fear is a powerful thing,” and it sometimes holds us back from achieving our dreams.
Taking over the reins from Sibulele Siko, who has gone to experience the joys of motherhood, has not been easy but rather an inspiring journey as I met and had conversations with the most influential people in the corporate world. Having read the previous issues of BBQ Magazine, I have seen the black market at work and determined to transform South Africa not only for the current generation but for those to come.
As we near the end of 2009, each of us has to look back and recognise our mistakes so that we can be able to influence tomorrow in the most positive way as we journey ahead.
As we struggle forward for transformation in the business industry, and perhaps in our communities, this issue of BBQ tackles the hardships that businessmen and women face in their various sectors, with a deeper focus on black business in the Western Cape. We look at the obstacles that these businesses have had to overcome in order to crack open a door.
When they say “business is not for the faint-hearted”, and you listen to what these people have experienced on their journeys to success; you will understand why they say so.
We spoke to individuals who have been newly appointed to senior positions in their various organisations, showing them how proud we are that they have persevered. We wish them all the best.
BBQ wishes to thank you all for the support you have shown, the contribution and the inspiration you have given. Planning ahead for the year that is to come, may we all continue to embrace the opportunities at our disposal and change South Africa for a better future.
Happy holidays
