Passionate, innovative and incredibly driven, Founder and Director of Munaaz Catering Equipment, Yacoob Carr, displayed skills of a true entrepreneur from a young age.

From selling chips at 20 cents a bag during school breaks to selling Fizz Pops at boarding school in aid of funding his hobby of horse riding, there is no doubt Carr was born an astute businessman.

Growing up, Carr had a very clear entrepreneurial vision which led him to where he is today with Munaaz Catering Equipment (pty) Ltd. He adds: “I’ve always wanted to be a businessman who would make a difference in the lives of those working with me and empower them with the necessary tools to allow them to chase their dreams.”

Carr started out by buying and selling second hand catering equipment, which gave him thorough insight into the hospitality industry and led him to becoming the forerunner and the biggest supplier in the trade. After reviewing the local market in 2012 and knowing that he had more to offer the competitive industry, Carr decided to change the entire structure.

“Since then, we haven’t looked back. My business venture was a bit of a one man show prior to that, however today we have a talented team of experts who make up our sales team, backed by experts in our service division.” They currently have a team of dedicated employees that continually strive to add value to their private and corporate clients businesses, providing assistance from the initial layout phase to an efficient end result.

At Munaaz the clients are viewed as a tremendous source of inspiration to the company and the team. “There are two types of people walking this earth. Creatures of circumstance and creators of circumstance. A creature of circumstance goes through life thinking that life happens to them. Our clients are creators of their own circumstance! They see things for what they are, not worse. They see them better than they are, then they make it happen. Dealing with this type of client everyday is awe inspiring and always a source of encouragement to do better. We believe that the biggest room we have at Munaaz, is the room for improvement.”

While being very passionate about his job, Carr is most proud of his exceptional team who he believes without; Munaaz would not be the success it is today. “They are always willing to go the extra mile for our clients, to do today what others are unwilling to do today, to get what they want tomorrow” When Yacoob isn’t horse riding, boxing or practicing Muay Thai, he is exploring Cape Town with his other half, Maria Anders, learning more about what the beautiful city of Cape Town has to offer.

Carr concludes: “There is no passion to be found in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
